Located in the famous Jordan Rift Valley - 1,385 feet below sea level, the Dead Sea is the lowest spot on planet earth.
With over 30% salinity, it is one of the saltiest bodies of water in the world.
Biblical Sodom and Gomorrah were located at its shores and it was a place of refuge for King David when he fled Saul.
Positioned in one of the planet's most seismic active locations, earthquakes occur on its seafloor almost on a daily basis. Most of them are too weak to be sensed by humans.
Although its name derives from the lack of living forms, we know today that special types of Algae and bacteria thrive in its water.
The Dead Sea's mud contains many minerals that penetrate the skin, nourish it, remove dead cells and helps rehabilitate the skin. The ancients knew that, and King Herod the Great made it one of the world's first health resorts.
