Maccabees restore the Temple's altar
Cheshvan 23 (the eighth month of the Hebrew Calendar), 164 BC:
Following their overcoming on the Seleucid Greeks, on this day Maccabees removed the Temple's altar in Jerusalem, which was converted by the Greeks to be the altar of Zeus.
This date was celebrated as a holiday in ancient times.
