Lord Passfield

British colonial secretary, Sidney James Webb (known as Lord Passfield) issues a formal statement of British policy in the Holy Land, limiting dramatically official Jewish immigration and acquisition of real estate by Jews. This statement is considered as a British retreat from the Balfour Declaration given in 1917, which was commited to establishing a national home for the Jewish people in the Holy Land.
