October 21, 1097 - First Crusade: Crusaders begin the Siege of the Syrian city of Antioch.
The siege, known as one of the longest of its time, lasted for almost eight months and conditions for the crusaders were often worse than those inside the city.
It is considered to be a formative event of the First Crusade due to the fact that the fall of Antioch to the hands of the Crusaders, broke Syrian Muslims ability to resist and opened the path to Jerusalem.
