October 28, 1948: Israel formally adopts its national flag.

The Israeli flag consists of two leaning stripes, inspired by the Jewish prayer shawl which is decorated with stripes. 

The blue-azure color is based on the color of the coat which was part of the Jewish High Priest's garments.

At the heart of the flag lies the Star of David also known as "David's Shield", symbolizing the shielding and protection offered to the reviving Jewish nation in its ancient homeland.
