January 18, 749: A devastating earthquake strikes the Holy Land.
The death toll across the region was in the tens of thousands, in what is estimated to have been a 7.5 magnitude earthquake.
The cities of Tiberias, Capernaum, Susita, Beit She'an and Pella were largely destroyed while many other cities across the Levant were heavily damaged. Many buildings, the Al-Aqsa Mosque among them, were severely damaged.
Ships across the eastern coastline of the Mediterranean were sunk as a result of a tsunami.
