A Chisel Used to Construct King Herod's Temple Mount Found in Jerusalem

A chisel which was probably used by the builders of King Herod's Temple Mount was found by Israel Antiquities Authority in Jerusalem.
The 5.9" (15 cm) long chisel was found in a pile of quarrying debris, 19 feet below the ancient street level at the southern end of the Western Wall, which served as a busy street during the times of the Second Temple.
Archeologists believe that this historical artifact was used in particular for dressing and finishing the final shape of the stones, after being set in place.
Scholars also estimated that the chisel was accidentally dropped by a worker stationed at a high scaffold during the construction of the wall, which did not bother to dismount and pick it up, thus leaving it to remain to this day.

Directors of excavation (IAA): Archaeologists Eli Shuqrun and Ronny Reich.
